What is Table Guru?

We’ve all been there.  Dining out at a restaurant where the food was delicious, the wine exquisite, the service impeccable but the table was....terrible!

Our aim at Table Guru is to help you find the best restaurant tables at any of the Michelin starred restaurants in London.  All our Michelin starred restaurants are rated by diners for diners so you can be sure to get a true view on the best restaurant tables to request to maximise your dining experience and avoid disappointment.

By using our Table Guru Search you can find your restaurant by name or location.  Alternatively, if you don’t have a restaurant in mind, use the Guru Advanced Search to filter by location, cuisine or Michelin stars.

When viewing the Table Guru Heatmap you’ll see which areas of the restaurant are hot, and which are not.  Reviewers also have the chance to rate their best tables for romance, view or business so you can locate the best table for those extra special occasions!

So go on.  Be a Guru and join us or browse our site for restaurant table advice to help you find ‘the best seat in the house’ at the Michelin starred restaurant of your choice.  Remember position is everything!

Happy dining,

The Table Guru Team

How to use Table Guru

Viewing a restaurant

The unique Table Guru Heatmap is generated from customer reviews of the restaurant, showing where’s hot to sit and where’s not.

It’s simple; green indicates a good area and red an area to be avoided!

If you’re looking for a table for a special occasion you can use the Table Guru Rating Filter at the top right to find the best area to book for view, romance or business. We’ve also included a “Hotseat” rating which gives the percentage of positive ratings the restaurant receives. The higher the percentage the more positive diners have been about the restaurant’s seating!

Below the Table Guru Heatmap are individual reviews from diners describing their experiences and top tips when booking a table to give you a more complete overview.

To help you form a picture of the restaurant we’ve included the following key features:

Reviewing a restaurant

Firstly, make sure you’re registered with Table Guru!

Once registered you’re ready to start reviewing restaurants: simply find your restaurant, select the “Floorplan” tab and click “Submit a Review”.

Each restaurant is broken down into cells by a two dimensional grid to allow reviewers to rate individual areas of the restaurant. Cells vary by dimension depending on the size of the restaurant (i.e. large restaurants have a small grid to allow more accuracy when rating areas).

There are five different icons that can be used when reviewing the restaurant floorplan – only one can be used per cell and only white cells can be rated as these represent seating areas.

The “Good” and “Bad” icons are the most commonly used and allow you to provide an overall indication of where’s good to sit and where should be avoided.

If there are specific hot areas that appeal for view, romance or business then these can be rated positively with the icons.

If you make a mistake don’t worry, simply use the “Eraser” to delete the cell rating!  You can rate as many or as few cells as you like, depending on your dining experience.

Once you’ve finished rating the floorplan please leave a comment in the “Comment” field to provide future diners with an overview of your experience and any top tips you may have. Once you submit your review you’ll be taken back to the main restaurant page, where you’ll be able to see the impact you’ve had on the heatmap and hotseat rating.

So, what are you waiting for?  Go on.  Be a Guru.

FAQs

I can’t find the restaurant I’m looking for.

Table Guru only lists Michelin starred restaurants in London, but we'll be expanding soon to cover the rest of the country.

Why do the restaurant floor plans not show set tables?

Restaurants often move the position and change the size of tables to cater for the supply and demand of diners. At Table Guru, we provide a guide to the layout of the restaurant which rarely changes, so you know where to request at table.

I have just dined at the restaurant and the floor plan is not accurate.

We welcome feedback and are constantly looking to improve the accuracy of our plans.  So, if you see a pillar out of place or a toilet that wasn’t there drop us a line!

How do I review a restaurant?

In order to post a review you first need to register with Table Guru.  This only takes a few seconds and allows us to save your reviews to your ‘Account History’, so that you have a record of your personal reviews.

How do I view my previous restaurant ratings?

This is only available to Table Guru Members.  Click on My Account and go to My History tab. From there you will see a record of all the restaurants you have reviewed and how you rated them.

What does the restaurant heatmap represent?

The restaurant heatmap is unique to Table Guru and represents where’s hot to sit and where’s not!  If the colour is green then reviewers believe this to be a great place to sit, whereas if the colour is red then this is a place to be avoided when booking a table.

What does the ‘hotseat rating’ mean?

The ‘hotseat rating’ shows the overall popularity of the restaurant’s table plan.  The higher the hotseat rating, the more positive the reviews have been and the less chance diners have of sitting at a bad table.

The site’s great but why can’t I book a table through Table Guru?

Good idea!  In fact, we’ve had many positive comments about the site that we’re looking to build in that functionality soon.

I am a member but cannot access my account.

If you are unable to login with your registered username and password then please get in touch with the Table Guru team through the Contact Us page.

Is Table Guru affiliated with any of the restaurants?

Table Guru is independent from the restaurants featured on the site.  Through the heatmap, our aim is to simply represent the views of diners for diners so they can make informed decisions when booking a table.  We don’t take bribes or free desserts from anyone!

I own a restaurant and would like to be featured on your site.

That’s great news.  Please contact us through Add a Restaurant and one of the team will be in touch.
